In America at the weekend

3 minute read

It's been a great run for the Into Mischief progeny of late.

Last week in Dubai Laurel River became his 20th G! winner and on Friday at Aqueduct his daughter Leslie's Rose won the Ashland to give him G1 #21, the Resilience won the Wood G@ and Imagination came second in the Santa Anita Derby!

At Aqueduct on Saturday as we mentioned Reslience won the Wood from Society Man 10/1 and Protective 38/1.  Favoured runners Deterministic and Tuscan Sky both blemished their copy books as up to then they were unbeaten.

The 100th running of the Blue Grass at Keeneland saw a potential super-star emerge in Sierra Leone, a son of Gun Runner, with Gaffalione riding for Chad Brown.  He's a magnificent looking athletic colt and should be favourite or thereabouts for the Kentucky Derby on the strength of that run.  Just A Touch ran well for second and Epic Ride 50/1 was third.  Earlier Alva Star turned the tables on Vahva in the Madison, with Red Carpet Ready third.

Santa Anita was all about Frankie Dettori who rode six winners in succession but was out of luck by the time it came to the Derby.  That went to Stronghold by a neck from Imagination with EJ Won The Cup third at 25/1.
