Jennings Wins Praise On Festivity

A high cruising speed and well-judged ride by apprentice Koby Jennings paved the way to a dominant win by Festivity at Rosehill on Saturday.

Festivity had finished runner up in two runs from a spell and had too much class for her rivals in the Thoroughbred Breeders NSW Handicap over 1400 metres.

Jennings took Festivity straight to the front from a wider draw and the mare’s high cruising speed kicked in from there, rolling along at a tempo that had those near her under pressure.

Jennings let Festivity ($4) go in the straight and she raced away to win by two lengths over La Speciale ($7) with Cat’s Wish ($26) third.

Waterhouse paid tribute to Jennings’ smart ride.

“Wasn’t it good to see Koby there – he’s been riding for me for a while now and he’s been listening to what I’ve been trying to get into his head,” she said.

“He showed good sense – when he got to the lead and the other horses attacked him he didn’t worry, he didn’t panic, he just let her bowl along.”

Jennings said the race went to plan.

“She jumped across from the wide gate and got a nice lead,” Jennings said.

“She’s got a high cruising speed but still good enough to kick on it.”
