Former New Zealand-trained three-year-old, Mongolian Wolf, who was having his first run for the Darren Weir stable, scored a good win here. He settled nicely in fifth place, on the rails, switched deeper nearing the home turn, challenged strongly at the 200m and then finished too well (wide out over the latter stages) to win well. Veladero had a good trip in third place on the rails, got through to challenge shortly after straightening. He then battled on well for a sound second, albeit after appearing to have every chance. Screamarr had a good trip in fourth spot, one out and one back. He moved up to take the lead at the 300m and then battled on well for a good third. The favourite Acatour was ridden quietly and settled back in eighth place. He was asked to improve at the 600m, went deep at the home turn but he failed to make any ground to finish (11 lengths) eighth, perhaps being affected by the Heavy 8 track.
