In a dominant result for the Chris Waller stable with first, second, third and fourth in this Group Three race, the Irish-bred stayer Libran scored a surprise win, his first success since winning the AJC Chairman’s Handicap (Gr 2, 2600m) at this track in April last year. He settled nicely in eighth place on the rails, got a split nearing the 200m, took the lead at the 100m and went on to win well. Antonio Giuseppe raced in seventh place, one off the rails, tracked up rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then battled on well for second. The favourite Life Less Ordinary was a handy fifth, one off the rails. He moved up (deep) nearing the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then kept fighting on for third after seeming to have every chance. Who Shot Thebarman raced in sixth place on the rails, improved (between runners) coming to the home turn and kept plugging on well for (2.1 lengths) fourth in a sound second up effort.
