Irish import Mister Sea Wolf broke through for his first Australian win at his ninth start since joining the Chris Waller stable. Racing in blinkers for the first time, he settled in seventh place, on the rails, got along the inner rounding the home turn, switched out to challenge at the 200m and finished a bit too well to score a narrow but good win. It was also a good ride by Jason Collett. Godolphin-raced gelding Flow had a nice trip in fifth place on the rails, improved to third at the home turn and looked the winner when he took the lead at the 100m. He then battled on quite well for second, beaten a short neck. Special Missile went to the front as expected and led until the 200m and then held on to take the minor placing. Hiflyer was back in eighth place (and deep) at the 600m and made ground under his top weight (59.5kg) for (2.9 lengths) fourth. The favourite Invinzabeel raced outside the leader, briefly looked a threat at the 200m but then disappointed over the latter stages for (3.3 lengths) fifth.
