Virage De Fortune would go on to prove her love of the track winning a Moir and Manikato. Maybe another specialist will emerge in the 2018 Scarborough Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday.

2018 SCARBOROUGH STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Scarborough Stakes is a Group 3 race run under Set Weights conditions for three year old fillies at Moonee Valley conducted by the Moonee Valley Racing Club.

The Scarborough Stakes is run over 1200m. It was first run in 1975 and was won by Miss Ollie.

The Scarborough Stakes has always been run at Moonee Valley bar for 1995 when at Caulfield.

Essentially the race has been 1200m every running.

The race is known as the Scarborough Stakes but was originally registered as the Moonee Valley Champagne Stakes and has had various sponsor name changes.

After being Group 3 to 1984, it was upgraded to Group 2 up to 2005 when it went back to Group 3.

Two 40-1 shots fought the race out in 2016.

Houtzen last year used this as her final lead up to the Everest where she already had a slot. She’d run 7th there.

The Scarborough Stakes is worth $150,000 in 2018.

Notable winners of the Scarborough Stakes include Houtzen (2017), Eloping (2014), Snitzerland (2012), Lone Rock (2010), Avenue (2009), Virage De Fortune (2005), Dilly Dally (2003), Fair Embrace (2001), St Clemens Belle (1998), Kapchat (1993), Klokka (1992), With Me (1990), Courtza (1989), Midnight Fever (1987), Canny Lass (1985) and Heart Strings (1980).

The 2017 Scarborough Stakes was won by Houtzen from Mintha and True Excelsior.
