Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 31.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Hawkesbury, Tamworth, Hamilton and Townsville.

HAWKESBURY: RACE 2 @ 12:35 PM

The well-related MATLOCK (6) returns to racing here but showed enough when last in work to warrant serious consideration in this. Van Overmeire has placed one from one when in the saddle and should take a forward position from the low draw. Tuned up for this with a solid Randwick trial win and shapes as a key contender. TAMBOURINE MAN (8) is facing the starter for the first time but has shown ability at the trials and won't need to be a superstar to be competitive against this lot. Keep a close eye on the market. GLOBE RUNNER (4) has improved with each run this time in and should be near his peak now. In the mix. KHUMBU (5) has had a few chances but is usually thereabouts and should earn some minor money. SEBROSSA (7) draws the inside alley and can run a race while fresh.
SELECTIONS: Matlock to win.

TAMWORTH: RACE 6 @ 3:20 PM

RED BOULEVARD (3) resumes for the high-striking Messara barn and was last seen over a mile at Group 3 level. Has the rail and Bullock sticks from a sharp Scone trial, Will have come on and has the form to take this out. HEAD ABOVE (7) was much better here on the same day in a bit stronger. Fitter and a hope with Buckley sticking. CARRIER BUSTER (5) comes back in grade and the former Victorian should be ready to show more and be competitive. SHEMAKESASTATEMENT (2) will be better for the two runs back in stronger races and won here only third-up outing. The 2kg claim is handy and quick improvement is likely.
SELECTIONS: Red Boulevard appeals.

HAMILTON: RACE 10 @ 4:30 PM

PURE DEAL (1) made a last-to-first midrace move then kept going to score with ease last time out over 2100m at Echuca. Shoulders 64kgs today but the weights are quite compressed save for the one at the bottom. Has thrived since switching to Victoria and is a big chance again. ANDAI STEPPES (7) led all the way to secure his long-awaited maiden win last start over 2100m on the Ballarat synthetic. Progressive stayer worth following up. SUPER SNITCH (8) also collected his maiden victory recently, coming from a long way back to score with a bit in hand at the end of 2000m at Stawell. Getting better as the trips get longer. NED AND POWER (2) went forward after being caught deep early then showed plenty of fight to get home narrowly over 2000m at Casterton 16 days ago. Very honest gelding who gets weight off the main dangers after the claim. Big chance again. BAZINI (6) missed by a whisker first up at Geelong. Promising stayer who can go one better without surprising.
SELECTIONS: #1 Pure Deal to win again.

TOWNSVILLE: RACE 8 @ 4:05 PM

MONSIEUR MACRON (5) is a wonderfully consistent performer who was only caught late over the mile last start. The drop in distance looks ideal and from the perfect inside gate he will take some catching again. On top. TENNESSEE BOY (11) did not take long to find his best form again with a resounding on pace victory last start. He revels in wet ground and there is no reason why he can't win again. WILLYGOOD (3) scored a narrow win two starts back and then had no luck at all last time out. He has a wide draw to overcome but should be allowed another chance. Include in all combinations. BOONA BOY (14) came with a determined run last start to win going away against lesser company and even with the step up in class here, he should not be totally overlooked. Each way value.
SELECTIONS: Monsieur Macron win bet.
