Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for December 31.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Gosford, Nowra, Warrnambool, Echuca, Sunshine Coast, Port Lincoln and Bunbury.
GOSFORD: RACE 5 @ 4:10 PM
NEW REPUBLIC (1) will relish the sharp drop in grade after drifting back from the wide gate when eighth over 1800m at Randwick in Bm78 class on December 23. Backs-up quickly and will take plenty of stopping. SILENT RUSSIAN (8) two runs back have been encouraging and gives the impression the 1900m will suit. Drops in weight for this after finishing fourth over 1600m at Wyong two-and-a-half weeks ago. Will get cover along the inside and loom up late. ALDEENAARY (2) lightly-raced gelding fitter after two runs back. Strips fitter now and has the right figures to take a hand in the finish. LADY SUPERSPY (7) scored over 1890m at Newcastle two back then missed the frame last time out over 1800m at Hawkesbury. Major player on best form.

NOWRA: RACE 3 @ 3:10 PM
ULYSSES BLUE (7) made some ground first-up in a Highway off a wide gate and will find this a lot easier. Won here back in May on heavy ground and looks the one to beat. EPAULLO CREED (8) was a drifter in betting when resuming at Canberra with a sound second. Fitter and handles all ground so looks a likely danger. MISS GIVINGS (6) held her ground in this class last time out when in the market. Can be a bit hit-and-miss so has to be included in the chances. SNAPPY JIM (2) and CARTOGRAPHY (11) have claims.
SELECTIONS: Ulysses Blue to win. Trifecta 7-2,6,8,11/2,6,8,11.
WARRNAMBOOL: RACE 6 @ 5:10 PM
BITCOIN (2) returns after a spell of six-and-a-half months. He was last seen starting $11 in a handy 3yo staying race at Flemington before a spell and was a dominant maiden winner first up last time in. Might have a bit more upside than a few of these and looks good value. COASTAL TOWN (3) worked home well to grab third at Moonee Valley last time out and should relish this trip now. Hard to beat. FERLAZZO (7) was an emphatic winner last time over 1600m at Hamilton with today's rider Dean Yendall engaged. No reason he can't win again. CHEVALIER DU FAU (1) resumes and was in good form last preparation. Look for a good fresh effort. STARDOM AWAAYTS (5) won an easier race last time and can figure.

ECHUCA: RACE 4 @ 2:50 PM
KHUTOS (1) ran on strongly over 1211m here last time out and looks ready to fire third-up and out slightly in trip. Last-start effort rates all over his rivals and he's open to further improvement. Looks awfully hard to beat if he can run up to his recent effort. MOLLY MAGEE (5) has been thereabouts her last couple as she still looks to shed the maiden tag. Will be running on from the back and making her presence felt late. THE CANDY KID (2) resumes over a suitable trip after showing good signs when getting out to the mile to end last campaign. Nice trial coming in and he's right down in the weights thanks to the claim of ZJP. Wouldn't surprise to see him in the finish. OLLIE'S BARREL (4) makes his debut for team Williams and Chris Parnham rides. Must be respected from the leading stable. HOT RHUMBA (6) can be thereabouts.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 8 @ 6:30 PM
MISTER HEMSWORTH (1) turned in a fine effort to win by a long neck at today's course and distance last start in a much-improved run. Finds another suitable race and can play a major role again. PARISIAN LADY (13) hasn't been far away in two runs since a Rockhampton win. Top-three prospect. ATLANTIC ROYAL (9) and GOLLY HUTT (5) can both improve on recent runs here.
SELECTIONS: Mister Hemsworth win.
PORT LINCOLN: RACE 2 @ 3:05 PM
TANE TOA (3) has found the maiden win elusive but it certainly hasn't been without trying. Rates highly on best efforts and gets another great chance to break through. Leading player. SLIM JIM (6) hasn't been able to threaten the winner but should find this easier. Ready now and can figure in the finish. TYPAR (9) was denied a whisker of resuming a winner last start. Should improve with that run under the belt and is expected to be in this for a long way. KIKKENMISS (10) is a first starter by Good Journey for Jason Allen. Winner of a recent trial with today's rider Caitlin Tootell aboard. Can make her presence felt on debut.
