Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 10.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Warwick Farm, Sandown, Doomben, Port Lincoln, Devonport and Belmont.
WARWICK FARM: RACE 2 @ 2:55 PM
GHAZNAVI (5) showed no early dash but worked through his gears impressively to be beaten just 1.4 lengths on debut over 1200m at Canterbury nine days ago. Nicely placed out to this trip so watch for him late in the piece at lucrative odds MAGIC SHADOW (2) attacked the line strongly only to miss by a whisker when facing the starter for the first time recently over 1200m at the Beaumont track. Sure to be putting in the big strides late again. ONE LAST SHOT (10) has been thereabouts at both runs this prep in shorter races. Will race handy from gate one and is a genuine contender. LISTENTOZOU (6) strips fitter after a satisfactory return to racing at Randwick on Boxing Day. NOT SO COMMON (8) didn't do much first-up at Randwick but is better than that.
SELECTIONS: Ghaznavi is worth an each-way ticket at big odds.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 6 @ 6:30 PM
Open race. NORTHERN BARRAGE (2) has had two pipe-openers and been around the mark in both but should be just about ready to fire now getting to 2400m third up. He's got a bit more upside than most of these and Lane sticks from a nice gate. Top pick. MUSGRAVE (10) has run second at his past two over the Moonee Valley 2040m and should be peaking for this. He's in the right stable and should relish 2400m now. Will be hard to hold out. PITTSBURGH PIRATE (3) is in fine form, winning three of his past four starts. He was dominant in a Bm58 at Geelong last start and can certainly measure up again. LARSEN BAY (14) wasn't far away in third at Moonee Valley last time out and should prove hard to catch rolling to the front. UNUSUAL PEARL (15) is knocking on the door and must be considered again.
SELECTIONS: Northern Barrage to win.
DOOMBEN: RACE 3 @ 3:23 PM
BETTER BE NORDY (3) drifted well back last start before storming home to score by a nose over 1200m at Sunshine Coast, giving him two wins a second in three runs so far this campaign. Robbie Dolan who has two wins when partnering stays on. Can deliver again. THE LIONS' GATE (8) kicked off the campaign with back-to-back Brisbane placings before heading south for a 1.2L fourth at Rosehill. Race fit and blinkers go on. Close to a win. ISLAND MAGIC (4) has had seven weeks off since running on for a resuming fourth at this track and trip but has been kept up to the mark with a trial win. STRAPPARSI (7) is racing well, scoring two back at Gold Coast Poly before finishing third last time over 1100m at Ipswich. Kept up to the mark with a solid trial. One of the main contenders.
SELECTIONS: Better Be Nordy has the form on the board. Siding with him again.
PORT LINCOLN: RACE 9 @ 5:10 PM
Another competitive race. NEED A DRINK (1) found his best form winning easily this trip three weeks ago. Drops back levels in grade and keeps the handy 2kg claim. He will use the fence and is well-placed to repeat the dose. SUPER SHARP (7) was never in the hunt at Strathalbyn his latest but placed second there prior in a CL2 over this distance behind The Ice Cutter. That stacks right up and he draws for the run of the race. A senior rider goes on. PRESCIENT (8) was plain two runs back heavily bet, but the form around that would see him get into the money. DANTELA (2) has an awkward gate but is going well enough to consider.
SELECTIONS: Backing I Need A Drink.
DEVONPORT SYNTHETIC: RACE 8 @ 4:34 PM
SEYDOUX (5) failed to live up to market expectations when resuming here last start in a tougher grade. Drops back in class and steps out to a favoured trip. Is unbeaten over this course and distance. Sharp improvement is anticipated. VOKES (7) held on for a narrow victory here fresh but couldn't go on with it last time. Will find this easier and will appreciate stepping back out to this journey. Key threat. GEE GEE CAN WIN (6) doesn't win out of turn but continues to knock on the door. Only needs to hold his form to be competitive. SUMMER FIRE (1) resumes. Hasn't saluted for quite some time but has figures that can see him in the finish. Don't underestimate. SELECTIONS: Backing Seydoux to bounce back.
BELMONT PARK: RACE 2 @ 3:34 PM
ART OF CONSENT (2) runs along and is ready to win off the two near misses at Ascot. Has a handy 2kg claim today and can keep improving. MRS KANGAROO (6) also peaks off two narrow defeats. She also runs along and keeps the 2kg claim. TYCOON HARRY (1) resumes off the heavily bet Maiden win. Has trialled twice and will be naturally improved. IF I DIN HAVADIME (3) resumed here beaten 1.6L. She's back on track and is a second-up winner with more to give.
