Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 23.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Queanbeyan, Sale and Gatton.
QUEANBEYAN: RACE 2 @ 2:50 PM
AGONY AUNT (5) is a local who spiked his figures second-up easily winning his Maiden this track. Resumed with a near miss and brought strong form to that. Cahill stays aboard and fitter she can take the next step. EMPHATIC BEL (3) led and won a Gosford Maiden before spelling and was quickly back to form winning a CL1 at Taree second-up. Races forward and can make the finish. MANHATTAN BABY (4) resumes for a Sydney yard and was placed here two-back. No surprise if she's presented forward. ARTIE BEE (1) keeps the 4kg claim and it's hard to knock the form. This is harder.

This looks a pretty hot maiden to kick off the card. DOWN LOW (2) resumes here but placed at Group 3 level before the spell and will find this assignment much easier. Draws the inside alley for Lane and should give this lot something to think about. SENSICAL (8) has hit the top-four in five of six starts to date and is another to have placed in Group 3 company. Has placed two of three over this trip and looms as the main danger. MYSTIC VAMP (5) best of the rest with the claim in a race decimated by scratchings.

Connections had such a high opinion of GOODES (4) that they raced him exclusively in Group and Listed company in his first campaign. Didn't quite measure up on those occasions but will find this grade much more to his liking. Gets the services of Lane in the irons and can play a major role in the finish. RANK'N'FILE (6) was well in the betting on debut and where there's smoke there's fire. Will have taken benefit from that day at the races and looks a serious player. BONSAFOX (7) strips fitter third-up from the break and gets in well at the weights with the 3kg claim. Top-three conveyance. DISCOBAY (8) was solid on debut before putting in a poor one before the spell. Open to plenty of improvement. FIVE STAR KING (3) best of the rest.
