Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 18th February 2024

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for February 18.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Albury, Dubbo, Sale, Werribee, Sunshine Coast, Port Lincoln, Albany and Hobart.

ALBURY: RACE 1 @ 12:55 PM

AQUALINA'S STAR (7) had support on debut but missed the start badly and did a good job to finish as close as she did there. Drawn well and if she breaks cleanly should go close. MAJESTIC AFFAIR (6) is a logical danger after a sound first-up second at Wagga. Sure to be around the mark again. CHECK SIDE (3) failed on debut at Leeton and spelled. Trialled very well behind Aqualina's Star recently and blinkers are on. Keep safe. NEWS AT FIVE (1) and LAIRY (9) can show up.
SELECTIONS: Aqualina's Star to win.

SALE: RACE 2 @ 1:55 PM

CATTRALL (10) only had one run last preparation, starting $6.50 at Sandown-Hillside and struggling before being spelled. The form around her first campaign reads far better than this level and expect she can put in a much better performance. SNICK (9) ran a good race first up at Pakenham over 1200m, boxing on well for third. She's been tested in some handy company and with added fitness should go well here. THINK BABY (12) resumes. She placed behind two smart types at this tracks last time in and can sprint well fresh. GRACIOUS DIVA (7) hasn't had the best of luck in her career thus far and merits plenty of respect.
SELECTIONS: Cattrall on top.

WERRIBEE: RACE 3 @ 2:50 PM

SCOPRI (14) made good improvement at Pakenham this trip and was nudged out after at Benalla. In a leading metro barn and hits this at peak. Suited and is ready to win. EASY MONEY (11) wasn't beaten far at Geelong on debut and has had a tick-over trial since. She's also in good hands and is sure to have come on. Maps to get every chance over the longer distance. HOT CITY (6) had been well-trialled and wasn't far away at Nowra on debut. Has been switched south by the premier barn and has been briefly freshened. Meech will likely position her forward and the mile shouldn't bother. CINQ CHANEL (10) is an improver and is also in good hands. She has to be considered as well.
SELECTIONS: Backing Scopri.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 4 @ 3:24 PM

A BIG CHANCE (1) is close to a win off back-to-back city placings, last time missing by just a nose at Eagle Farm. Loves this course and distance with three wins and a placing from four attempts so is very well placed. SENESCHAL (2) started at $5.50 last time when beaten 4 lengths at Doomben and will enjoy getting back to this track having missed by just a head when fresh here two back. Draws the inside and can peak. CALL ME HILTON (6) ran a bold race over this journey last start, racing on the pace and sticking on strongly to finish half a length away in third. That gave him a win and two placings from his last three runs here. Contender. ZATTASTAR (8) has been consistent of late, closing off strongly last start for second, beaten 1.3 lengths. Don't underestimate.
SELECTIONS: A Big Chance to add to the strong record at this track and trip.

PORT LINCOLN: RACE 8 @ 4:33 PM

I NEED A DRINK (1) made light work of his rivals here last start when putting over 3L on his nearest threat. Goes to another level over this track and trip and is sure to take some beating. DJANGO EXPRESS (11) bounced back off a disappointing effort at Gawler with a solid chasing effort into the placings at Ceduna. Not too much tougher this time and is already a course and distance winner. Expected him to be giving this a shake. AHSO (10) was no match for I Need A Drink here last start but now meets the winner 2.5kg better at the weights. Brings him back into calculations. Cases can also be made for THE ART OF FLYING (4) and BADISS (6) on recent performances.
SELECTIONS: I Need A Drink the one to beat.

ALBANY: RACE 4 @ 3:27 PM

INSYDE SUCCESS (4) showed plenty of promise in his debut campaign, stacking right up in Open grade before heading for a spell. Trial coming in was good behind a big winner and he can roll to the front from gate 5. Looks a horse destined for better races and can knock this over on the way through. TROPICAL SUN (5) rattled home to win at Mt Barker last start, winning by 0.3L. Suspect similar tactics will be applied today from the wide draw and if she can finish off like she 3 weeks ago, she'll go very close to winning. RED REBEL (1) is a slight niggle dropping back in trip but is a month between runs now. This is easier than what he's been up against of late though and the 2kg claim helps. Key player. DODGE 'EM (3) hits this third-up and ready to peak. Trending nicely this campaign and won't be far away. FRIES WITH THAT (6) looks best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Insyde Success.

HOBART: RACE 7 @ 4:50 PM

THUNBERG (1) has threatened his last four and raced a $3 favourite here 9 days ago, Uses the rail and gets in well with the 4kg claim. Gets her chance to break back. CHAMPAGNE CINDERS (5) also has decent claims. Won on the synthetic and then found a place at Launceston as a short-priced favourite. He may control the race from an inside barrier and take catching. SWEETSOP (9) got too far back at Launceston but impressed just missing on the Synthetic prior. Has a low alley and handy 3kg claim and is capable of fighting out the finish. ETOSHA (6) led and won the 60 here making good improvement. Gets in well with the 4kg claim and can't be ruled out.
SELECTIONS: Backing Thunberg.
