Cam Waters is expecting a tough day at the office when he makes his NASCAR Truck Series debut in Virginia - but that's how the Supercars ace likes it.
Just days away from his NASCAR debut, Supercars star driver Cam Waters is relishing racing into the unknown.
Far away from Australia and his familiar Ford Mustang, Waters will get behind the wheel of a pickup truck for a guest drive in the Long John Silver's 200 in Martinsville, Virginia, on Saturday.
Known for his speed and tenacity on the track, the two-time Supercars championship runner-up concedes his chances are slim of a podium place on his debut - but that's the way he likes it.
Waters, running under the ThorSport Racing banner, will borrow the No.66 Ford truck that has been driven by Conner Jones so far this season.
Jones's best finish was 14th in Las Vegas in March.
"I've got no expectations. I don't really know how I'm going to go," Waters said on Wednesday.
"It's going to be jumping in the deep end, with the limited practice and not being able to drive the truck beforehand ... but I like the challenge of it.
"I've heard (the racing) is pretty aggressive. They say it gets pretty wild at times, so hold on.
"The way I want to treat it is just finish, keep the truck clean, and learn as much as I can."
Mildura-born Waters is the latest Supercars driver to head to the renowned American series, with Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki getting guest stints last year.
Van Gisbergen parlayed a debut NASCAR Cup Series win in Chicago into a full-time deal in America for this season.
Waters has no plans to emulate the three-times Supercars champion New Zealander just yet.
"I definitely have a dream to one day get over here and race full-time NASCAR, but to get there it's such a long journey and I've got a pretty cool thing going on in Australia, racing Supercars," Waters said.
"To do the odd NASCAR race, like we're doing this weekend, is pretty cool.
"We'll go through this weekend, have a bit of fun and work out what NASCAR is all about."
