Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for March 05.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Kembla Grange, Wagga, Terang and Townsville.
KEMBLA GRANGE: RACE 5 @ 4:20 PM
CAPITOL QUEEN (1) lightly raced mare dropping sharply in grade. Nice return with the 61kg when a plugging seventh over 1250m at Canterbury in BM64 company on February 9. Maps well with the claim and no excuses against this lot. FORTRESS AUSTRALIA (2) second-up. Comes off a 45-day let-up after tiring late when seventh over 1200m here on January 20. Since fitted with a recent trial and drawn to map well. Improver. HEADLEY GRANGE (8) resuming for the Joe Pride yard after finishing second last of 7 at Eagle Farm over 1400m on October 25. Fitted with two quiet trials and market moves must be monitored. SPIRIT OF VARANASI (11) fitter after three runs back and has a good record on her home track. Failed to stretch out in the soft (7) going when a poor sixth over 1000m at Hawkesbury on February 21. Expecting a sharp turnaround today.
SELECTIONS: Capitol Queen to win.

WAGGA: RACE 5 @ 4:40 PM
PRINCE OF WALES (1) is yet to break the ice but has turned in some solid performances. Did a good job to hold down a minor placing fresh behind what looks an above average type, before chasing gamely into fourth last time out. Cherry-ripe now but will need some luck from the gate. TREV THE DRILLER (5) was far from his best when resuming at Ararat. Blinkers going on first time should have him more focused and the inside alley assists chances. Sharp improvement anticipated. His stablemate FAITHFUL CHAMPION (6) is proving hit and miss of late but has best figures good enough to put him in the finish. In the mix. DANCER ONE (2) steps out on debut for Gary Colvin and warrants safe keeping on the back of a soft trial placing here in readiness. Worth paying attention to any market moves.
SELECTIONS: Prince Of Wales the one to beat.
TERANG: RACE 4 @ 3:00 PM
STEAL THE SUN (11) worked home evenly at Bendigo first-up and then went back and was beaten a nose over 1300m heavily bet. She was slow off and the effort impressed. Fitter and will take plenty of beating in a country Maiden. ALISENT (2) placed as favourite at Ararat on debut and can build on that. Has an awkward gate but Childs is a positive jockey booking. EN PRIMEUR (6) debuts for the Paddy Payne yard and his latest trial was sharp. Needs a good ride but is likely to race well. MON ETOILE (9) resumes and has placed 2/3 first-up. Bled her only start last campaign and is back after 135 days. Some trust is required but her best form would have her in the finish.
SELECTIONS: Backing Steal The Sun to win.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 2 @ 1:34 PM
DANCE FOR ME RANDY (1) finished third when resuming last time out over this course and distance, travelling at the tail of a small field before winding up strongly in the closing stages to get within a length of the winner. Fitter and has yet to miss a place. Can progress and win. FORGETABOUTIT (3) is back from a spell of four-and-a-half months. At the only run clocked in third, beaten 1.1 lengths at this course and distance. Likely to have developed with maturity and draws well. Each way. MARGOT BARBIE (4) was only beaten by 1.8L last time to follow a series of top-three finishes. Go well. MR GRUMBLER (5) ran on when making his debut and can improve.
SELECTIONS: Dance For Me Randy to progress off a good return and win.
