Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for March 08.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Newcastle, Moonee Valley, Dubbo, Ararat and Rockhampton.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 5 @ 3:40 PM
EDITED BY (2) third-up today and showed enough at the latest from the wide gate when running on late to secure fifth over 1200m at Rosehill on February 28. Extra distance suits and expected to race closer from the good gate. DUNEDIN (4) resumes today after making a tidy debut when fourth over 1400m at Kembla on October 21. Not asked to do much in two recent trials and can play a leading role here. JUST IMMORTAL (3) three-year-old gelding by Justify out of Black Mamba on debut for the Waterhouse/Bott yard. Had two mixed trials and the stable can never be underestimated. NEW PHAROAH (1) resuming today. Nice effort last time in when sixth in the LR Phoenix at Eagle Farm on June 3 over 1500m. Ran second in a recent trial and look for him late.

MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 3 @ 6:15 PM
PORTA ROMANA (5) resumes having won a trial very well at Warwick Farm in preparation. She's a well-regarded filly who won on debut last campaign before being tested in a very strong 2yo race at Randwick. Finds a nice race here and should go close. CHALICE WELL (3) was an easy maiden winner at Kyneton first up before struggling here over 955m up in grade last time. This suits. WHISTLEFIELD (8) is going well, running third at both starts this time in. No reason she won't be in the finish again. SOJU (9) has been good in two runs back and looks to get a good run down in the weights here. I AM GERONIMO (2) can progress from a first-up placing at Bendigo.

DUBBO: RACE 3 @ 2:45 PM
ANTISOCIAL (6) was an eye-catcher here fresh off a long break, rattling home from the rear to just miss. Carries plenty of scope for improvement and is drawn much better. The one to beat. ROCKIN' EDITION (2) was denied narrowly of scoring his second win last time at Gilgandra. Not that much tougher this time and has scored over the track and trip before. Kept fresh for this and can play a major role. DESPERATELY (5) has switched yards since finishing rearwards at Bathurst in testing conditions. Capable of a much better run in her stable debut. CARRANA ANNE (9) was a determined maiden winner at Orange to kick off the prep. Is yet to go on with it but warrants safekeeping.
SELECTIONS: Antisocial the one to beat.
ARARAT: RACE 6 @ 4:30 PM
STELLAR MOFEED (10) was considered good enough to tackle some Stakes races earlier in the season and her recent spell would have done her the world of good. She drops right back in class for her resuming run and does come to hand quickly. She lands her best recent draw and will be the one to beat in this. LADY NEGRONI (9) fought on bravely at her last run when she might have been half a run short with nearly a month between runs. She has a shorter gap between runs this time and can bounce straight back into the money here. Each-way value. ZIPITUP (2) made an overdue return to the winners' circle at Yarra Valley nearly 2 weeks ago when getting up in the final stride to score by a short head. His confidence is back now and he stays in the same class. Go again. ESSENTRIC NATURE (5) is resuming from a spell and has more upside than most in this. A wide draw will make it tough but he can't be risked in this lineup.

ROCKHAMPTON: RACE 3 @ 2:50 PM
ROY'S ROAD (3) cannot be faulted this prep and was only beaten by a nose on a soft track here 3 weeks ago. She has 2-kilos less to carry this time and can go one better, especially if she strikes a more preferable firmer track. ALEACO (2) has hit his straps recently and made it 2 wins on the bounce when scoring here nearly a fortnight ago by just over half-a-length. He is being stretched out to a mile again and in his current space, he can get the job done again. DEVIL KICK (1) saves her best for this circuit and did not quite round off her run over 1800 metres at Cairns a fortnight ago. She won over that trip before that and won't lack fitness. She can bounce back immediately in this.
