On Monday, 6th October 2014, Racing NSW Stipendiary Steward, Mr Chris Polglase, together with Racing NSW Head Investigator, Mr Nathan Hayward, and a Racing NSW approved Veterinarian attended a southern NSW horse stud property.

Whereby a number of blood samples were taken from yearlings and from spelling racehorses.

The sampling was conducted under the terms of AR15D and AR178H, which were introduced in November 2013 to empower Stewards to conduct testing for the presence of anabolic androgenic steroids in the system of any thoroughbred horse.

The samples have been lodged with the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory for analysis for anabolic androgenic steroids.

AR178H provides that a horse must not be administered an anabolic androgenic steroid at any time and that any person may be penalised who administers, causes to be administered or is a party to the administration of an anabolic androgenic steroid.

In addition, any horse administered an anabolic androgenic steroid is not permitted to race for a minimum period of 12 months from the date the sample was taken or alternatively for 12 months from the date it is allowed to start in a race under AR45A.
