The Australian Jockeys’ Association will hold a special ceremony at Royal Randwick on Saturday to commemorate the deaths of two jockeys this week.

The Australian Turf Club today joined the AJA and the nation’s racing community in offering its sincere condolences to the families and colleagues of jockeys Carly-Mae Pye and Caitlin Forrest.

Wreaths will be placed by representatives of the AJA at the recently-unveiled memorial to fallen jockeys at Royal Randwick before the first race on Saturday.

Flags will also be flown at halfmast ahead of the ceremony to be presided over by the Australian Racing Christian Chaplaincy’s Brother Dan Stafford and the Reverend Colin Watts.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Darren Pearce paid tribute to Carly-Mae Pye and Caitlin Forrest.

“These two gifted young jockeys have once again highlighted the bravery of every rider who steps out on Australian racetracks every day,’’ Mr Pearce said.

“We should all be mindful and grateful for the skill and courage of all riders, and we pass on our deepest sympathies to Carly-Mae and Caitlin’s families and friends.’’

Paul Innes, Chief Executive Officer of the AJA said: “The AJA is in mourning following the tragic deaths of Carly-Mae and Caitlin in riding accidents this week.

“The AJA expresses its sincere condolences to the families of both these hard working and talented young ladies.”
