Sydney's only country race day tomorrow at Fernhill

3 minute read

The skies are clearing as final preparations take place for the second annual Fernhill Picnic Race Day at the historic Fernhill Estate in Mulgoa tomorrow (Saturday, 18 October).

The six-race picnic race program is headlined by the $15,000 Fernhill Cup and the return of legendary 2GB and Channel 9 commentator Ray Hadley who will be calling the action for spectators.

Hadley won’t be the only star on track. The day’s MC is television personality Ben Damon, while some of the biggest stars from the Penrith Panthers – Jamie Soward, Matt Moylan, Kevin Kingston and former NSW Origin great and Penrith Holden Cup Coach Trent Barrett – are sure to be a hit as they meet and greet the local crowd from 1.30pm.

The Outback Steakhouse Family Zone will provide fun and frivolity for all the family from 11.00am including jumping castle, petting zoo, pony rides and face painting.

With a giant food fare to treat the taste buds, Fernhill has endured that there will be plenty to eat, see, drink and do at Sydney’s only picnic race day.

Fashionistas won’t miss out either with the ‘Luv My Bag’ Fashions on the Field contest; while everyone at Fernhill will have the chance to win five nights at Hamilton Island for two people or a Corporate Box for eight at this summer’s T20 International Cricket.

For those who like a flutter, TAB and bookmaker facilities will be taking bets on races at Fernhill and Randwick as well as Caulfield Cup Day in Melbourne.

Gates open at 10am and despite the activities stretching all day, there is no rush to head home. Fernhill invites everyone to stay for a free after-race concert commencing at 5.30pm.

Fernhill Estate is located at 1041 Mulgoa Road, Mulgoa. Parking is available at the venue for $20 or at Penrith Paceway for $5 which includes a connecting shuttle service. A free shuttle bus service will also operate between Penrith Railway Station, Penrith Paceway, Wallacia Primary School and Fernhill Estate.

Adults’ general admission tickets are on sale online for $30 or at the gate for $40. Kids under 14 are free. Seniors discounts also available.
