NSWJA Pays Tribute To Bob Rowles

3 minute read

The New South Wales Jockeys Association wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bob Rowles, who passed away on Sunday.

In particular, our thoughts are with Bob’s wife Betty and their son Terry.

Bob was the much loved jockeys room attendant at the Australian Turf Club for an astonishing 67 years. He retired in 2013, a tireless worker in the Sydney metropolitan jockey rooms.

So highly regarded by all jockeys, Bob was honoured to have the new jockey’s room at Randwick named “The Bob Rowles Jockeys Room”

After serving Australia in WWII, Bob began work with the Australian Jockey Club and quickly gained the respect of Sydney jockeys and visiting jockeys.

He formed lifelong bonds with countless jockeys, many of whom are still riding today. He was loved and respected by all.
