Popular TV Star Heads 'Home' To Wagga

3 minute read

Home and Away star Jake Speer will be in familiar territory as special guest of Murrumbidgee Turf Club during its Country Championships raceday at Wagga on Sunday March 15.

Speer plays Oscar MacGuire in Channel 7's popular TV show, having been born and raised in Leeton in the Riverina region.

MTC will conduct the fourth of seven $100,000 Country Championships qualifying races at Wagga, with Grafton and Goulburn (20 March) and Dubbo (22 March) to follow.

First and second in each heat will then head to Royal Randwick on Saturday 4 April to compete for a $300,000 purse in the Country Championships Final (1400m).

At each of the Country Championships Day, the race club will host a designated 'Racing and Grazing' area that provides patrons with a free gourmet barbecue and live entertainment, with Wagga offering music by The Mighty Yak - a professional live cover band.

The Club is also providing free entertainment for children including a jumping castle, face painting and slushies. MTC's CEO, Scott Sanbrook, said: "The Country Championships has created so much excitement in Wagga and throughout the Riverina."
