Race dates for all three codes in Tasmania have been finalised for the 2015/16 racing season.

The schedule provides for:

• 68 thoroughbred meetings, 86 harness meetings and 161 greyhound meetings.

• Maintaining the Tasmanian Derby/Bow Mistress twilight meeting on Friday 5 February and running the Betfair Hobart Cup on Monday 8 February.

• Running the Betfair Launceston Cup on Wednesday 24 February.

• Running the Magic Millions race series on Wednesday 17 February before the annual yearling sale on 18 February to avoid the Sydney Classis Sale the same week.

• All thoroughbred meetings will be run at Tapeta Park (Spreyton) during August.

• 21 thoroughbred night meetings between 7 October 2015 and 20 April 2016.

• 12 country meetings to be conducted by harness clubs.

• The Devonport Harness Racing Club will host the Devonport Cup in late January (previously early March).

• The Tasmania Cup meeting at Tattersall’s Park will be held in the afternoon timeslot.

• 2 Friday night harness meetings programmed at Tattersall’s Park.

• The running of the Hobart Thousand final on Thursday 17 December.

• 4 breeders classic series for greyhounds have been scheduled for September to rotate between Launceston, Hobart and Devonport each year.

Tasracing chief executive officer Eliot Forbes said the race dates had been finalised after extensive negotiations with clubs but were still subject to Sky Channel approval.

“We are working with Sky to finalise the race dates as it works on its national racing calendar coverage,” he said.

Dr Forbes said feedback about this year’s Betfair Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival following a number of slight adjustments had been extremely positive.

“The 2016 carnival will again feature an optimal racing schedule and attractive event days,” he said.
