Post race reports from recent meetings - August 12-August 29.

HAWKESBURY August 29

RACE 7 – Trainer Chris Waller advised that on return to the stables, Austrian had blood present in the offside nostril. Waller was advised that Austrian would now be required to barrier trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing.

ROSEHILL BARRIER TRIALS September 1

HEAT 10: Trainer Chris Waller was advised that Zibello, which had bled from the offside nostril during the above trial, would be required to barrier trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing.

WARWICK FARM – August 26

RACE 3: More Beautiful’s trainer Matt Dale reported a veterinary examination had revealed no abnormalities. He indicated he would continue on with the mare's preparation and drop it back in grade to Canberra next start.

MOE August 22

RACE 6: Trainer Louise Bonella has confirmed that Liberty Flame has pulled up satisfactorily.

MOONEE VALLEY August 22

RACE 5: Trainer Adam Trinder advised that Valiant Warrior has pulled up satisfactorily, he is going to give the gelding a short break, and will continue on from there.

RACE 6: Gold Busker’s trainer Logan McGill has advised that the gelding pulled up fine and is continuing on with his preparation.

RANDWICK August 22

RACE 2: Trainer Kristen Buchanan reported that a full veterinary check of Two Blues had not revealed any abnormality and it was her intention to continue with its campaign, with a view to starting the mare in the Mona Lisa Plate at Wyong on Friday week.

RACE 5: Stable foreman Edward Cummings reported that Spy Decoder had pulled up well and the intention is to continue on with its preparation.

Harry Hotspur’s trainer Kim Waugh advised that a thorough veterinary examination had not revealed any abnormalities and the horse had pulled up well.

Marseille Roulette’s stable representative Mark Newnham reported the horse has undergone throat surgery, which will necessitate it being spelled.

RACE 6: Burbero’s trainer Bjorn Baker was interviewed, in the presence of Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian D C Suann, relative to the gelding breaking down in the aforementioned event and subsequently being euthanised.

Treatment records and veterinary records for Burbero were examined. The Stewards found that Burbero was euthanised due to the hopeless prognosis following a comminuted fracture of the third metarsal (cannon bone) and a fracture of the left hind leg.

RACE 8: Zayam’s trainer Matt Smith reported that the horse had pulled up well and the intention is to continue on with its preparation.

MILDURA August 21

RACE 8: Youdini’s trainer John Hyam advised that the gelding was recovering from a virus, but has now recovered and is continuing on with his preparation.

CANTERBURY August 19

RACE 7 – The stewards interviewed co-trainer Peter Snowden relative to the break down and subsequent euthanasia of the racehorse Stevie Boy. Evidence was taken from Racing NSW Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr C Suann, who advised the inquiry that the results of an autopsy conducted by the University of Sydney Teaching Hospital, Camden, on Stevie Boy found that the gelding suffered comminuted fractures of both sesamoid bones along with a laceration of the ligament and the flexor tendons.

Dr Suann advised that the autopsy had not revealed any evidence of any pre-existing condition that may have given rise to Stevie Boy suffering the injury. After considering treatment and veterinary records provided by the Snowden stable, the stewards found that there was no pre-existing condition that may have given rise to the incident.

Snowden was spoken to in respect to the requirement for recording the use of antibiotics in his treatment records.

ROSEHILL: August 15

RACE 2: Trainer David Vandyke reported that that Astromomos had pulled up well and based on sectional times of the race reiterated that he was pleased with the run and that the horse will derive benefit going into its next start.

RACE 5: Co-trainer Michael Hawkes reported that Headwater had pulled up well.

CANTERBURY August 12

RACE 2 – The stewards concluded their inquiries into Sam Clipperton's handling of Pursuits. During the adjournment, an investigation of the betting on the race was conducted by Racing NSW betting steward Terry Griffith. Betting analysis of the race concluded no integrity issues.

The stewards advised Clipperton that he had erred in that he had not pushed forward in the early stages, in what was a moderately run race, to cross Way Too Good and settle outside the leader, Roeinda. Clipperton was reprimanded for what was deemed to be an ill-judged ride and was advised he must show greater judgment in future.
