3 minute read

Kangaroo Island attracts visitors from around the globe thanks to its wild beauty, pristine coastline, iconic lighthouses and abundant wildlife.

The gem in South Australia’s tourism crown will play host to the Kangaroo Island Gourmet Gallop on January 24, giving locals and tourists alike the opportunity to combine a travel itinerary packed with spectacular sights with all the festivities of a day at the races.

The island is a foodie’s paradise, with smoked meats, olives, cheeses, honey and wine to tantalise the taste buds – and these are among the trackside treats punters can experience at the KI Gourmet Gallop.

One of the island’s finest wineries, Dudley Wines, will provide its top drops on the day, while Coopers’ iconic beers will quench your thirst as you watch thundering horses make their way down the home straight.

Kangaroo Island Racing Club president Roger Williams said the event aims to highlight the best produce the region has to offer set to a backdrop of a six-race program.

“It’s a fantastic combination of local food, beer and wine, fine fashion and top quality racing - there’s certainly something for everyone,” Mr Williams said.

“We also encourage people to celebrate the day in style by booking a package and enjoying the atmosphere with clients, colleagues or other racing enthusiasts.”

Food vendors on the day include Two Birds and a Squid, KI Tru Thai and Kevin’s KI Catering.

Hannaford and Sachs will also supply their delectable meals at this year’s event. Co-founder and chef Rachel Hannaford has incorporated her family legacy recipes into her menus and draws on her experience of food cultures stretched across the globe.

“We really pride ourselves on using local produce in innovative ways and have become known for our extensive variety of Asian and European styles,” Ms Hannaford said.

“We’re thrilled to be at the Kangaroo Island Gourmet Gallop this year and look forward to treating racegoers.”

SeaLink has race day packages for the Kangaroo Island Gourmet Gallop from both Adelaide and Cape Jervis on Saturday, January 24. To find out more about these packages, contact SeaLink on 13 13 01.
