3 minute read

Thoroughbred Racing SA has announced three appointments to the TRSA Board following a meeting of the Directors’ Selection Panel.

There were three vacancies created by Directors retiring by rotation as required by the TRSA Constitution, with two of those Directors renominating.

Three new Directors have been appointed to the TRSA Board, with Judith Jones, Hon Iain Evans and Steve Kelton appointed.

“The decision was made following deliberations by the Directors’ Selection Panel,” said Nick Redin, Thoroughbred Racing SA Company Secretary.

“The appointments are effective from the TRSA Annual General Meeting on 27 October and, as each is a new Board appointee, it will be subject to the normal Independent Gambling Authority approval.”

The Directors’ Selection Panel comprises Wayne Henson (Chairman SARCC), Allan Burchard (Chairman SAJC) and independent Mark Hender.

Judith Jones has significant experience in the racing industry and has been Chairperson of the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club for the past five years and a member of the South Australian Racing Clubs Council for over four years.

Iain Evans was a Member of the South Australian Parliament for 21 years, during which time he held a number of Ministry positions while in Government, and Shadow Ministry positions while in Opposition. He was a former Minister for Racing, Leader of the Opposition, and Shadow Treasurer.

He has held numerous board positions, along with various business management roles, and has developed a strong background in communications, governance and stakeholder relations.

Steve Kelton also has significant experience in the racing industry. He has been a Board member of the South Australian Jockey Club for over five years, and is currently Vice Chair of the Club.

He is an active horse owner and race meeting attendee. Prior to retirement he was Executive Director of SA’slargest TAFE Institute for over ten years and Executive Director Human Resources in the Department of Education, Employment & Training.
