Students On Track For Raceday

3 minute read

Thousands of University students from Canberra’s institutions are expected to converge onto Thoroughbred Park on Friday for a great afternoon of racing.

The Students Race Day, now in its 6th year is becoming almost as iconic as the Melbourne Cup race day, specifically aimed at bringing a youth market to enjoy a day at the races.

“We have seen the crowds grow each year” Chief Executive Peter Stubbs said.

“It gives the students a chance to dress up and have a day out in the lead up to examinations, we are expecting a bumper crowd this year” he said.

Admission is free with and local djs paying on the stage. Patrons can also enter the fashions on the field in the mens and ladies categories, showing off their spring ensembles.

“It gives the students a chance to compete with the not-so serious competitors who save their outfits for the traditional feature days.

The race day has merged with another long-standing event – the Tony Campbell Memorial Cup. The race has been running for 11 years and the prize money on offer for all 8 races is over $190,000.
