Injured Track Riders Receive Fundraiser Proceeds

3 minute read

Injured trackwork riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm have received almost $100,000 each from the “Racing Reaches Out” fundraiser held for them last month at Clifford Park in Toowoomba.

The pair were presented with cheques for over $93,800 each by Toowoomba Turf Club chairman Kent Woodofrd and chief executive Blair Odgers when they visited Saunders and Clasohm at the Princess Alexendra Hospital in Brisbane.

“In the end, Racing Reaches Out raised $187,616 that has been split between Ben and Wade,” Odgers said.

“The support of the racing industry and the community at large, meant Racing Reaches Out was an enormous success.

“Everyone at the TTC wishes Ben and Wade the very best with their recovery.

“They are both working very hard in rehab and we were thrilled to facilitate and host the Racing Reaches Out fundraiser.”

Saunders and Clasohm suffered severe injuries when they were involved in a fall at Clifford Park trackwork on the morning of April 8.

Saunders said he and Wade Clasohm were “so happy” to see the staff from the TTC visit them in hospital.

“It’s a staggering amount and we can’t believe the generosity from so many.

“Once again, words will fail to express our thanks to those with the deep pockets and big hearts. Thank you, everyone,” Saunders said.
