Fabulous Foodies RSVP to The Park for Melbourne Cup Carnival

3 minute read

Fans of fine food are in for a treat at the Melbourne Cup Carnival with some of the city’s favourite food venues popping up in The Park at Flemington.

Racegoers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to refuelling between races with an assortment of sumptuous gastronomic offerings from Dexter, 8bit, Hector’s Deli, Rice Paper Scissors, 400 Gradi and Zero Gradi.

Whether it be tantalising burgers on brioche buns, filled with delicious patties from Shayne McCallum and Alan Sam’s 8bit; or a different kind of doughnut by American BBQ sensations Dexter, with their famous meat doughnut stuffed with burnt brisket ends and dusted with paprika for a unique gastronomic taste experience.

In a nod to the classic Aussie sanga Hector's Deli will deliver some old-school favourites, including the wagyu pastrami sandwich featuring meat from Meatsmith in Fitzroy; the ham-cheese-tomato toastie which oozes mortadella, mozzarella and provolone; and the perpetually popular chicken schnitzel roll.

Rice Paper Scissors will be the go-to for those looking to indulge in Asian fusion dishes, with an insider’s hot tip to try the sticky pork belly, twice cooked pork in a tamarind caramel sauce, topped with a fragrant herb salad.

Johnny Di Francesco’s 400 Gradi, heralded as the world’s best pizza, will be the destination to enjoy a classic margherita, easily eaten with one hand leaving the other free to place a bet or enjoy an authentic gelato from Zero Gradi.

Victoria Racing Club Executive General Manager Customer Engagement Caroline Ralphsmith said the second year of The Park at Flemington will provide even more tasty treats for racegoers.

“With pop-ups from the best in the business including 400 Gradi, The Park is set to yet again be the place to indulge in the city’s best food and beverages,” Ms Ralphsmith said.

“The culinary curation is a reflection of Melbourne’s diverse food and drink landscape, there is something for everyone and it’s all complemented by fabulous fashion and entertainment in The Park.

“The Park truly is one of the ‘must-visit’ destinations this Melbourne Cup Carnival.”

To quench the thirst of racegoers there will be a multitude of beverages including classic Italian coffee and espresso martinis at The Aviary, a custom double decker bus by Lavazza. For beer lovers, the James Squire Caravan and the James Boag Premium Bar are the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing brew. Vodka enthusiasts can enjoy a nip from Absolut @ The Park, and wine aficionados can sample the newly launched A’Tivo in the luxe A’tivo Bar, visit Bar Schweppes and the Flemingo Croquet Lawn or wind down with Wolf Blass at The Wolf Blass Bar.

Entrance to The Park is free for all Melbourne Cup Carnival ticket holders.
