VRC Donation To National Jockeys Trust

3 minute read

Victoria Racing Club chair Amanda Elliott has presented a cheque for $55,435.94 to the National Jockeys Trust on behalf of the VRC at the sixth annual NJT20 cricket match.

Held at Caulfield Park, the match between the Jockeys team and the Racing All Stars team has seen more than $100,000 raised for a cause close to many hearts.

The VRC sponsored three-time Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Damien Oliver for the match, with proceeds going to the NJT for its support to injured jockeys and their families.

The contribution includes funds from the following initiatives:

• $1000 per jockey participating in the Melbourne Cup who gave their time to take part in the Melbourne Cup Parade, for a total of $19,000.

• The proceeds of Winx merchandise and Winx’s winning saddlecloth auction from Seppelt Turnbull Stakes Day – a total of $11,300.

• Money raised by the Love Letter to Racing with Ross Stephenson event on Seppelt Turnbull Stakes Day, supported by the VRC – a total of $24,135.94.

• Sponsorship of Damien Oliver in the 2018 NJT20 cricket match – a total of $1000.

Mrs Elliot said the VRC has a long and proud history of supporting the National Jockeys Trust and the Club is pleased to continue this association.

“Jockeys are crucial participants in our great sport, and the role of the National Jockeys Trust in providing financial assistance to jockeys and their families when in need is invaluable, so the VRC is proud to offer its contribution” said Mrs Elliott.

Mrs Elliott also noted the increasing popularity of the NJT20 cricket match.

“The impressive turnout at the NJT cricket match highlights the strong camaraderie between racing participants, and the wonderful way in which players and spectators get behind this important cause.”
