3 minute read

More money has been pledged to help support the local communities of Caulfield, Mornington, Sandown, the racing industry and communities that operate within the Pegasus Leisure Group locations after $113,000 was raised by the MRC Foundation on their third annual MRC Foundation Blue Diamond Gala on February 22.

The Blue Diamond Gala, the biggest fundraising event for Melbourne Racing Club’s MRC Foundation, was attended by 400 benevolent guests and business partners, including Guest of Honour Sir Ian Botham, and hosts Michael and Jacqueline Felgate.

The final fundraising figure was tallied from profits from ticket sales and money donated through activities and pledges made on the night.

The MRC Foundation supports a number of local charities and community groups including Fight Cancer Foundation, Safe Steps, Camp Quality, Pinch-a-Poo, Riding for the Disabled Association and many more. In addition,

The Foundation also establishes community-driven initiatives that directly support the local communities in Caulfield and Mornington and the wider thoroughbred racing industry.

Patricia Faulkner AO, Chairman of the Foundation, says the Gala is a chance to both raise funds and celebrate the work of the Foundation.

“Our Foundation supports a broad range of people in need, including those experiencing family violence, drug and alcohol addiction and health issues,” Ms. Faulkner said.

“We support those people by leveraging the Club’s resources, venues and networks to promote and facilitate their own charitable endeavours.”

A new partnership in 2018 will also see the MRC Foundation supporting Wallara Australia in its innovative GrassBusters program.

Based at Sages Cottage Farm in Baxter, GrassBusters is a training program that has been developed for adults with different abilities who are interested in horticulture.

Through the partnership, the MRC Foundation is contributing to the procurement of new equipment as well as donating resources including access to the Mornington Racecourse and our experienced ground staff.
