The rail is out 4m 1000-380m and +2m the remainder. The track is rated a Heavy 10 and scratchings have thinned out a number of the fields. The quaddie legs are competitive affairs.
Race 1
CARING LASS (4) trialled twice and then resumed in a 64 at Hawkesbury and needed the outing. Won a CL1 at Gosford two starts back over 2100m and then was out graded in a Group 1 and spelled. This is likely to be a tough slog over the mile and she should be ready for it. AMIGOS NO MORE (3) led beaten a lip at Kembla Grange in a 64 (slow track) and then was just fair to the line there following (held his rating). This suits and he is hard-fit. Feared. FERRARI MAN (2) led and deserved the CL1 win here over this distance. Keeps improving and will run along from the low barrier. TYROL (6) may the best of the others.
Race 2
Fancy the newcomers. Tricky. AUNTY GINNY (2) is down from Goulburn and impressed in her recent trial. The sought-after Cahill sticks and that's a decent push for her chances. BLUE BAYOU (3) and MIGHTY MYRTLE (4) both debut for the premier local barn and are sure to be well prepared. They've both trialled with Martin sticking with the former and she's had better support early. SINGLE BEAT (7) has plenty of support at Gundagai but was disappointing. Fitter now and may appreciate a heavy track. In a strong local barn and keep safe.
Race 3
TELL THE FUTURE (7) is still a Maiden but has strong relative figures and brings a near-miss from Kembla Grange over this distance. He has more up his sleeve and should secure the run of the race. The in-form Guymer rides and has been with him all along. ZABELLSARERINGING (4) is also third-up and was just nudged out at Gundagai his latest starting favourite. Up to the mile advantages and Owen's booking is a positive. He can keep improving. BREAKAWAY WEEK (5) disappointed in the same race but threatened twice here prior and it's hard to risk the Dryden yard. AUTUNNO (8) is a Sydney-trained Maiden with enough ability to consider.
Race 4
Tricky. HAMMERING AWAY (3) debuts for Canberra's premier barn and has been given a soft trial. Owen sticks from that and expect him to be ready to go and prove hard to beat. HULU (8) debuts for the sharp Neasham barn and should also be better than the trial form suggests. Has an awkward barrier but the stable is not to be taken lightly when it brings runners to Canberra. SHISUTA BO (12) did nothing in town but this is much more suitable and she drops back to a sprint. This will be a slog and she presents at peak fitness. No surprise if she turns the form around. VEGAS DREAM (5) and APOLLO MISSION (1) both line up for the Beer yard. The former is an ex-Kiwi who will be fitter and is better suited over the longer sprint. Has shown a bit.
Race 5
A good contest. DUBLIN (2) resumes off the comfortable Wagga Maiden win on debut. Was well bet and handled the heavy track with confidence. Is sure to have come on and gets conditions to suit. In the smart Matt Dale barn with the in-form Owen sticking aboard. PRETTY VEGAS (1) resumes with a handy 2kg claim and has excellent heavy track form. Has won fresh and draws for a soft run. Keep very safe. ARTIEBETT (9) was heavily supported here 24 days ago and won the 45 by a space. He's come back to racing improved and can't be ruled out with the extra fitness. SPIRIT LAKE (7) also showed a lot more winning the Wagga Maiden first-up. Had switched from a Sydney barn and will also have come on. She's also a hope.
Race 6
PROMETIO MAS (5) delivered a CL1 at Gundagai following three narrow defeats at this track. He races handy and the Dryden-trained galloper is the one to beat after scratchings. CAPTAIN CORELLI (4) just missed in easier at Cowra but his edge is his liking for heavy tracks. Has a small claim and can use the low gate. Tipping he will give a sight at a price. YOUR NOT THE BOSS (8) resumes and doubt the heavy track will pose an issue. Lightly raced and can come back further improved. Keep safe. TITAN STAR (2) has been racing in stronger and likes the wet. His fitness will hold him in good stead.
Race 7
Two Goulburn-trained gallopers look to hold the aces. MASTER JOE (4) won the 66 on resumption heavily bet and has been nudged out the two since in Open grade including here. The wet track won't be an issue and Cahill is a key jockey switch. Has been briefly freshened and is ready to win. IRON WILL (6) has been racing all campaign in town and has 3kg weight relief. He will also race forward and his figures stack right up. Handles in the wet and is feared. MAJOR TIME (1) will also race forward and has returned to racing further improved. Spiked his figures narrowly beaten at Gundagai and has the handy 3kg claim. Fitter and is also a player. FEEL THE KNIGHT (8) wasn't beaten far at Hawkesbury and has weight relief at this level. Hasn't won for a long time but has figures that will see him competitive.
Race 8
Competitive. TWIG (5) presents third-up off a brief freshened and was scratched here last Saturday. Has looked in need of the two runs this preparation and drops in grade with a small claim. Has placed 3/3 third-up and her best form is good enough. DORAMI (6) got too far back at Gundagai and best go on the comfortable CL1 win here prior. Won her Maiden in good style on a heavy track at Wagga (heavily bet), so she should have no issues in today's conditions. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (3) found one better first-up in a quick return on form. Performs second-up and draws low with a handy 1.5kg claim. Fitter and also deserves consideration. CRUCIAL WITNESS (4) quickly found form here and will be fitter again. Will race forward from an inside gate and is also a chance. VAAROOM (8) is on the quick back-up. Put his best foot forward last time but mixes the form.
