Analysis and suggested bets for nine-race card at Gawler on Saturday.
We put our trust in the capable hands of team W Clarken & N O'Shea on Saturday, with both of our best plays of the day not only hailing from their stable but with stable rider Ben Price piloting.
The crafty partnership shoulders a terrific record at Gawler, notching up 10 wins in their last 36 runs (28%) – with the last three being consecutive.
The bet365 best of the day comes in race two (2) where I'm confident Cullen Skink can continue his terrific form and add to his picket fence.
The four-year-old Highland Reel gelding has really found his groove this time in, scoring in his last three, with the most recent coming at this track and being the most impressive. The way he was able to finish off last start and draw away from his rivals over the 1704m, suggests the rise in trip should prove no bother.
Ben Price steers again after partnering in the last two wins and is drawn to get the gun run from the inside alley. I expect the good times to keep on rolling.
As for the best value play of the day, we again look to the same stable/jockey combination with Ballon D'Or in race five (5).
After featuring prominently in last week's Say From SA, only to be denied of a run due to the last three races on the Murray Bridge card being abandoned following a power outage, the four-year-old finds herself here again.
Echoing on from last week's spiel, the daughter of Lord Of The Sky has shown plenty of ability in her early career, most notably finishing third in the Listed Adelaide Guineas back in April 2023. However, her career peak came in her last run of the campaign when putting 3L to her nearest rival at this track, posting a Racing and Sports rating of 87 in the process.
Unlike the 1000m she was going to tackle last week, 1200m looks like a much more suitable kick off point, for what could be a big campaign for the mare.
As mentioned last week, the Clarken & O'Shea runner looks to have come on nicely during the break, judging her jump out success when beating home one of South Australia's most talented sprinters Taunting.
Expect her to sit off the speed early and be climbing over their backs at the business end.
