Intriguing day at Rosehill with the Hobartville heading a quality card.

Found the feature of the day very tricky with more questions than answers so we'll steer clear and poke around the edges.

If I had to back something in it, Celestial Legend finally gets to 1400m and should relish that, but the same could be said for a few others in the field, including Tom Kitten.

For the best play of the day, I'll roll back to the Listed Paramatta Cup (1900m) where Diamil ran a strong rating first up in an open handicap over a mile, carrying 61kg and working home well to grab third.

He was clearly the fastest home in the race and earned a sectional mark up there. It may not have been in the best race but he's still run right up around his best and should improve second up out to 1900m.

Some of his form around this trip reads very well- beating Bankers Choice and Huetor in the JRA Plate, on wet ground, which we may see a bit of Saturday, and last preparation he ran second to Muramasa in the Coongy.

J-Mac goes on from a low draw and he should be going close. In the same race, I'll be having something on Canberra Legend at double figures with a spell under the belt. He wasn't given much hope at his Australian debut in the Rosehill Gold Cup and promised plenty in the UK before coming over.

The other value play comes up in Race 6 where Welwal makes a bit of appeal at double figures. He's first up which is the main query but he won a jump out at Flemington in good style and certainly has the ratings to be competitive.

Only one run last campaign, his first as a gelding, and he dropped out with plenty of excuses, pulling up lame and with a throat condition before being spelled.

He draws a soft gate here and should get a bit of give in the ground. The favourite Marquess looks very short dropping back in trip from a mile while the others, bar perhaps Kinloch, are either benchmark horses or likely to need further.
