Canberra Racing Preview – Friday 12 April 2024

3 minute read

The Rail is in the true position and the track will likely race in the slow range.  A good meaty program for punters to get their teeth into.

Race 1 1000m Mdn SW

TREZZAMINA (7) has switched from a Victorian barn on a 40-day return. She's speedy and has been within range both starts this preparation. She's the testing material if presented tuned up. GRINS (5) is a debutant and impressed placing in a recent Canberra trial. Tipping she will race boldly and prove a threat. MOTORBOAT (6) debuted at Goulburn on debut over a longer sprint. She's been kept on the fresh side and Danny Beasley is a key jockey booking. Quick improvement is anticipated. GOOD PRIZE (1) debuts and hasn't been seen since winning a Canberra trial in October. He has the blinkers applied and should race well. MOUNTAIN CHATTER (2) is a debutant who's had a soft trial and Kayla Nisbet rides for her father. Keep safe.

Race 2 1000m Bm50

ROSY SUE (6) was heavily bet and turned the form winning a Moruya Maiden leading all the way. That stacks up and she appears to have turned the corner.   Draws to advantage and the in-form Budler sticks. Strips fitter and can lead a merry chase. GEMINIDS (2) is right up to this but the 4kg claimer must manage an awkward barrier. She's placed 4/5 fresh and this is winnable if things work out. RARE BEAUTY (1) will be better for the first-up outing. She has pieces of form that would see her very competitive and the 1.5kg claim assists. CHAMPAGNE IN LACE (4) resumes and is a speedy galloper likely to come back further improved. Owen is a key jockey booking and she needs to be kept safe.

NEXT BEST: Race 3 1000m CL1

GETTY (2) is a leader who deserved the first-up Maiden win here before uncharacteristically folding up late at Goulburn well beaten. Prepared to forgive that lapse and he will present fitter. He has a ratings edge, and the in-form Owen stays aboard. LOVE THE CUBE (1) is lightly raced and promising. Was expected to win at Newcastle on debut beaten 1.6L and then delivered a Hawkesbury Maiden as expected. He will be further improved, and the leading course-striker Collett is booked to ride. VADERZAN (3) wasn't beaten far here first-up and has more to give. Maps for the run of the race and it's hard to risk the Dryden yard at home. TOKYO ICE (6) placed as an equal favourite at Nowra and is heading in the right direction. Keeps Budler and maps for a soft run. ZIPITALIST (4) and HOLD (7) both resume and have scope for improvement.

Race 4 1300m CL2

CODE IN TIME (4) showed plenty in his brief initial preparation and resumed here with a thumping Maiden win heavily bet. He will present fitter and can lead or box-seat from the low barrier. Promising and can deliver again for a top Sydney yard. CAPITOL QUEEN (2) is also in sharp Sydney hands and peaks following a 2.3L defeat at Kembla Grange. She races forward and has the first-time blinkers applied. Will keep improving and is a winning chance. Things didn't work out for CANDLELIT (1) at Hawkesbury and better to assess him on the 1.5L defeat there prior, when he was able to lead. He has the blinkers first-time applied, but he must skip over from an outside gate. He will be vulnerable if that doesn't work out. TWELVE HOURS (7) resumes and has trialled well. Has a low gate and Beasley is a key jockey booking. Comes off a peak and must be kept safe.

Race 5 1600m CL1 SW

DRACO'S FIRE (8) missed a whisker at Scone and then led and walloped the Goulburn Maidens by 2.3L over 1500m heavily bet. He impressed and will hit this at peak. Has a small claim and races forward. JUSTICE SERVED (15) is also in sharp Sydney hands and led and won a Goulburn Maiden on debut. The blinkers are applied today, and she should appreciate the longer trip. Has an outside gate and that's a niggle. The Dryden-trained IMPENDING HARMONY (14) sprouted wings here 14 days ago beaten a nose over 1400m. Has a soft barrier and the mile will be right up his alley. Keep very safe. HALKIS (11) has been going around at long odds but there was a lot to like about the 1L defeat at Kembla Grange in stronger. Has been kept on the fresh side and deserves consideration.

Race 6 1300m Mdn

STURTY (1) was spelled off a promising debut and was heavily bet at Nowra first-up beaten 1.5L. Has the outside gate but strips fitter and Day stays in the saddle. The longer sprint will suit, and this is winnable with average luck. Stablemate ELTOROSON (4) was back on track beaten a whisker at Moruya over this distance. Will lead or box seat from an inside gate and Owen sticks with him. Peaks and is a player. STEELY GIRL (11) found Code In Time much too good here first up but covered the others. Presented off a Warwick Farm trial win and will strip fitter. Maps for a soft run. RAINAGAIN (2) is still new and didn't have the best of it at Moruya on debut (vet cleared). Tipping he can make quick improvement for the in-form Beer yard.

Race 7 1200m Open - Federal

BODY BOB (1) resumes and won a recent trial on the Wagga Riverside by 6L. Raced in town his last four and that form stacks right up. Has plenty of early speed and will make short work of the wide barrier. Heywood sticks from the trial and he should take beating. EASTERN GLOW (3) resumes for Canberra's premier barn and was last seen in the rich LIttle Dance at Randwick where he had no luck. Finished close-up in town the two prior and has prepared for this with a sharp trial. The barrier is awkward, but he flies this trip and will go close with average luck. POKERJACK (2) won the Camarena first up on Black Opal Day and followed with a solid effort in town in a 78. He will be fitter again and the 3kg claim brings him right into it. LIGHT PRESS (8) led surprisingly and just got up here in this grade 2-weeks ago. He peaks now and keeps getting better. Penza rides today and he must be considered.

BEST BET: Race 8 1600m Bm65

DEAD OF NIGHT (1) brought strong form to resumption but needed the outing. Followed with a much better effort at Goulburn and is ready to fire. He can use the rail and no surprise if he controls the race. Collett sticks and she heads the ACT jockey premiership. The one to beat. BRINGBACKTHEBEARS (4) went close here this grade and then delivered a comfortable 66-win at Wagga as expected. Back to the mile won't bother and he will hit the line hard. JESSANDI (3) peaks and assess on the nose defeat here two back in a 70 over the mile. Has a 1.5kg claim and is worth another chance. REGION TIME (10) spiked his figures when beaten a whisker here this trip at 70 level. Has an awkward barrier but she'd be a chance holding that form.
