The bet365 Best From The West - 20th April, 2024

3 minute read

We're served a massive 10-race card for Quokka Day, with plenty to like throughout the meeting.

The Quokka is finally upon us.

After months of build-up and aniticpation, 14 horses will race for their share of $5 million over the Ascot 1200m.

There's plenty of depth to this year's edition, with the trifecta from the 2023 edition in the west once again, including some progressive three-year-old's who are among the best in the country.

I won't dive too deep into The Quokka, as my trusty colleague Trent Crebbin has an in depth preview of the feature which you can read HERE.

It's not all about The Quokka though, with WA's premier juvenile race, the Karrakatta Plate also taking place.

This Group 2 event will see the boys and the girls take each other on after spending the last month tackling separate lead-ups into the event.

The main races coming into the Karrakatta are the Gimcrack Stakes for the girls and the Perth Stakes for the boys.

With both races taking place on the same day, it makes it an easy guide to doing the form. By Racing and Sports measure, Bustling ran some 3 lengths faster than the girls and he's a deserved favourite.

He looks to get plenty of favours from an inside alley and the stable already had Blake Shinn booked prior to his win in the Perth Stakes.

Golden Kathleen gets William Pike in the saddle for her grand final, but she'd need to improve on what we saw from her in the Gimcrack.

I'm looking away from the feature events on the card for my best bet, and I've landed on THE BOSS LADY in Race 10.

The Boss Lady was an impressive winner first-up when an equal favourite in Open 3YO grade, running over the top to win narrowly.

She returned with a figure close to her best, suggesting she's in for a successful campaign working through the grades, and she improved every time she faced the starter in her debut effort.

The daughter of Street Boss already rates highly in this field and with improvement expected as Damian lane hops in the saddle.

The Boss Lady comes up against a handy field, but she looks destined for races better than this grade and she can build on her impressive record.

Simon Miller will have plenty of focus on The Quokka with Amelia's Jewel and Petula, but GENEROSITY in Race 5 is one that jumps off the page.

She has some big scalps in her time, defeating Quokka contender Ripcord at her third start and ending that campaign with a placing in the Champion FIllies and Lee-Steere Stakes.

As she showed last campaign, she may be able to stretch out in trip again this preparation, but she was very effective over this trip fresh and she trialled like a bomb coming into this event.

Much like The Boss Lady, she is a progressive type who will be very competitive in races better than this.
