Race 2: Smart Vengeance

One to keep an eye on from Saturday's Rosehill meeting is the Annabel Neasham-trained Smart Vengeance.

On debut over 1100m, the two-year-old jumped fairly but as opposed to her trials, failed to muster early speed before settling worse than midfield under the riding of Kathy O'Hara.

Travelling in a similar spot throughout, the filly found herself last on the rails when straightening with a wall of horses in front of her.

Feeling the race quickly slipping away from the pair, O'Hara began to push her mount to the outside passing the 400m to gain clear running.

Positioned the widest when passing the 200m, the daughter of Smart Missile was finally able to let down with her full effort.

Running on gamely, the two-year-old took good ground of her rivals and while she posed no threat to the winner, the filly hit the line the best and was unlucky not to fill the frame.

Beaten 2.5L in fourth, Smart Vengeance's debut effort was one of promise and had she been treated to a better run in transit, there is no doubt she finishes closer - if not wins the race.
