Bippo No Bungus was ridden quietly in the early stages and settled ninth one off the rails, before switching three deep with cover at the 800m. She fanned wide rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and kept fighting on gamely to score a last-stride win in a blanket finish. Balmont Girl was midfield before improving wide from the 1000m, when the pace slackened, but she was then caught three deep without cover outside the leading pair. She then put in a good run at the 200m and battled very well for a strong second. Angel Rose was fifth between runners at the 800m, switched to the rails on straightening and took a narrow lead at the 200m before battling on for a close third. The favourite Rose Of Choice ($2.10) was ninth between runners to the turn. She angled for a split at the 200m and then made ground late, in the sprint home, for a close-up (length and a half) sixth. *ANZ
