Short priced favourite ($1.55) Real Love, recent winner of the Queen’s Cup (Gr 3, 2200m) at this track, was settled nicely in fourth place by William Pike, following a very moderate early tempo in the small five-horse field. She was asked for her effort rounding the home turn but took a while to wind-up in the straight. She hit the lead in the sprint-home at the 50m and then won quite comfortably by a half-length. Balmont Girl raced in third place with cover before moving up outside the leader (Dabang) at the 800m. She got to the front on passing the 200m but found the winner too good in the latter stages to finish (half length) second. Respondent was third on the rails to the home turn, looked a threat when got a rails run to challenge at the 150m and then fought on for a close-up third. Debang led the field, setting a very steady early tempo, and held on for (two lengths) fourth after leading until half-way down the straight while the only other runner, Devotto was outclassed and finished (6.5 lengths) last.
