The in-form Lindsey Smith-trained four-year-old Trap For Fools is now the winner of his last six races in succession after taking out this Listed race, his third at the level at his latest three outings. He again began smartly and soon went to the front. He then settled well at a steady tempo before being challenged nearing the home turn but he kept responding and fought back gamely to hold on to win well in another good front-running victory. Dark Alert raced in second place, moved up outside the leader at the 800m, challenged at the home turn and then battled strongly for a very good second, just finding the winner (who conceded him 3kg) too good. Not Again Ken travelled well in third place on the rails, stuck to the inner and got through to challenge at the 200m and kept battling on to take the third placing. The favourite Royal Star raced in fourth place, one out and one back, moved up approaching the home turn but that effort was short-lived and she just battled from that point to finish (3.3 lengths) fifth in a disappointing performance.
