A somewhat disappointing field provided a good finish but favourite Falcon Crest, with the best form in the race, was able to hold on for his ninth win (third stakes), taking his earnings beyond $500,000. He was fourth (one off the rail) to the 400m, moved three wide turning in then challenged the leaders at the 200m. After a brief tussle jockey Chris Parnham asked the question and they edged into the lead to hold on by a half length at the post. Pinzu co led at the 250m and gave the winner a fight but was outgunned over the final 50m from North Ridge who did not see daylight until the 100m and ran on well (inner) for third.
