Barakey was smartly away from his outside barrier (6) in the small field and he soon settled outside the leader, his main rival Smoko. They then travelled along at an even tempo on the Dead4 track to the turn. Barakey moved up well nearing the home turn and after a keen battle in the straight, he gained the upper hand at the 50m and then went on to win impressively by a length and a half in a smart first-up performance while Smoko battled gamely for a good second. Zester raced in fourth place, one out and one back, to the turn and held on soundly for (2.8 lengths) third. Celebrity Miss was second last, one off the rails, in the six- horse field to the 600m point. She then battled on to dead-heat for (3.2 lengths) fourth with Settle Strada who was third on the rails to the home turn while the outsider Talent Show was last throughout. *ANZ
