The Darley raced three-year-old Adage broke through for his first win here in five starts. He settled fifth on the rails from his inside barrier (1) and remained there until the home turn. He got an inside run nearing the 200m, drove through to take the lead and then battled on well for a narrow but sound win. The Kim Waugh-trained Oxford Poet was third on the rails to the 600m, took the lead at the 200m and then fought back particularly well for a close second, his second such placing in only two starts. The John O’Shea-trained Polarmore was second last in the 11-horse field to the 600m. He fanned wide on straightening and came with an eye-catching run to take third on debut. He is out of the 2003 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Polar Success (Success Express) and looks very promising. The favourite Most Joyful ($4) was just past midfield to the 600m. She put in a brief run on straightening but then finished only fairly to finish (four lengths) eighth. *ANZ
