More Than Ready (Rs0mw)
The Gai Waterhouse-trained three-year-old filly Shahad, who indicated her potential with a good fourth to Guelph (Exceed And Excel) in the Tea Rose Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Randwick in September, scored a good first-up win. She had a perfect trip in third place before moving up nicely, three deep at the home turn. She took the lead at the 100m and went on to score comfortably, putting up a good effort with her top weight (59kg), to win by three quarters of a length. The Gerald Ryan-trained Fastcar was fifth on the rails, angled into the clear half-way down the straight and ran on nicely for second while the winner’s stablemate Ryker led the field to the 100m point and just held on to take third, beaten a length. *ANZ
