Echo Gal did well to beat older runners here, albeit narrowly. She began well and worked in the early stages from her wide barrier (11) to take the lead. She was nicely clear on turning into the straight but tired in the closing stages, after her early efforts just lasting to win by a short half head from the late-closing mare Niobe who came from near last at the turn. *ANZ
