In what could prove to be a good form race, the speedy Lord Of The Sky impressed with an all-the-way win. He quickly crossed to the lead and set a good pace, before pinching a break at the 200m and he then went on to win clearly scoring by three and a half lengths in smart time (58.16) on the Dead5 track. The Peter Moody-trained debut runner Monkstone ($3 fav) missed the start and was last in the ten-horse field early. He improved to be seventh on the rails from the 700m, before switching between runners passing the 300m where he was giving the leader about six lengths. He then ran on strongly for an eye-catching second. He looks very promising. Gallant Express, another debut runner, was fourth one out and one back to the turn and kept battling on in good style for an encouraging third. Last start Moonee Valley winner Miss Steele raced in sixth place one off the rails to the 600m. She switched out at the 300m and kept battling on fairly well in the straight to finish fourth, beaten six lengths. Top weight Regimental Pride, who was resuming, eased at the start and was second last on the rails to the turn before making good ground in the latter stages for fifth. The sister to Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Crystal Lily, Crystal Ruby showed pace being a handy second to the turn, but dropped out from that point to finish eighth on debut. *ANZ
