The promising filly Marianne was quickly away and travelled well outside the leader (Forever Discreet) at a moderate early tempo (first 800m 50.67 on the Dead5 track). She moved up well on turning for home, took the lead passing the 300m and then fought back gamely for a narrow but impressive win. She has now won twice from three starts and looks destined for better things. Critical Angel travelled well in third place on the rails to the turn. She was blocked in the straight, finally getting clear when switched to the rails at the 100m, she then battled on well for a good second. The favourite Spirit Of Heaven settled second last in the nine-horse field. She moved up early (three wide) from the 700m due to the slow early pace, challenged wide out rounding the home turn and fought on well in the sprint-home for a good third, being unsuited by the moderate early pace. Star Fashion was sixth one off the rails before improving three wide nearing the turn. She then kept fighting on in the straight for a sound fourth. *ANZ
