The Mick Price-trained colt Nordic Empire was most impressive on debut. He was quickly away and Damien Oliver eased him to settle in fourth spot. He then made a quick move as the pace slackened and moved up nicely, three deep, approaching the home turn. He dashed clear passing the 200m and was eased down nearing the post. He looks to be a very smart colt. Zulu Land did not show any early pace and settled second last on the nine-horse field. He was urged to improve coming to the turn and went through to seventh on turning for home, giving the leader about six lengths. He wound-up late and made good ground for a good second on debut. He looks the makings of a quality colt. My Lucky Strike showed good early pace and raced outside the leader to the home turn. He challenged on straightening and battled on nicely from the 200m to hold third, beaten just over two and half lengths, while Shining Mane led the field until half way down the straight before tiring for fourth. *ANZ
