The David Hayes-trained/Shadwell-raced two-year-old filly Wawail did well to win on debut in the rain-affected conditions. She showed good pace before settling outside the leader (Ready To Fight) before forging to the lead passing the 300m. She responded nicely, holding on to win by just under a length. She is a very promising filly. Sakitto raced in fourth spot, one out and one back in the small five-horse field. She was asked to improve approaching the home turn but raced a little greenly, veering wide on straightening but picked up again mid-stretch and ran on well for a most encouraging second, also on debut. *ANZ
