Star Fashion was eased from her wide barrier (11) and settled in second last place in the 16-horse field. She improved along the rails from the 700m, saved considerable ground rounding the home turn and then got a split at the 200m to hit the lead at the 100m. She then went to win well by half a length, putting up quite a good performance which was aided by an excellent ride by Michael Walker. Lady Cumquat was near last, between runners before getting a split on entering the straight. She moved up at the 200m, challenged at the 100m and continued to run on well for a good second. The favourite Suavito began satisfactorily today and then eased to settle about ninth between runners. She got a run through at the home turn but was then held up, getting clear eventually at the 100m before finishing on for an unlucky third. Dig A Pony was more handily placed than normal, racing in about sixth place between runners. She switched out on turning for home and then fought on for fourth after seeming to have every chance.
