The WA-trained gelding Malibu Style won well, his seventh win in 29 starts and his second at stakes level. He showed good early pace before settling in third place (with cover), behind a good tempo and then moved up well rounding the home turn. He dashed to the front at the 200m and then went on to score impressively. Legless Veuve settled in seventh place, on the rails, switched deeper on straightening and kept running on well to get second in a photo. The favourite Crystal Dreamer did well after a wide trip. He was smartly away from his difficult barrier (12) but then eased to settle in sixth place (deep) after being trapped wide in the early stages. He moved up, widest of all, at the home turn, went to second and then fought on for a good third, missing second narrowly in a photo.
