After showing promise at his first two starts, the Mick Pricetrained colt Lone Eagle impressed in breaking through for his first win here. He did not show much early pace and settled in seventh place, one off the rails, in the nine-horse field. Damien Oliver took the colt deep rounding the home turn and he sprinted smartly to challenge at the 200m and then finished too well to score a narrow but comfortable win at the post. He should appreciate further and looks a colt with a good future. Evil Cry raced in fifth place, on the rails, got through on the inner at the home turn, took the lead at the 200m and battled on gamely for a good second. Nistaan raced in sixth place, one off the rails, improved (wide with cover) from the 600m, challenged at the 200m and then held on quite well for a sound third at his second race start.
