No Excuses Bec was ridden patiently and raced in last place in the nine-horse field until nearing the home turn. She fanned wide on turning into the straight and came with a strong late run to win in the last few strides. Top weight Quayside settled back in eighth place. She tracked up nicely, three wide with cover, from the 800m before switching to the extreme outside at the home turn. She looked the winner as she dashed to the front at the 200m but was overhauled in the last few strides to finish a game second, conceding three kilos to the winner. Spinderbella was handily place early on but was pushed deep forcing an early run to be outside the leader at the 1200m. She challenged at the turn and kept fighting on well to finish third, beaten three quarters of a length.
